James A. Bacca

James A. Bacca was born in Raton, NM and raised in Albuquerque. He moved to Turlock, CA to go to college and became a Stanislaus County Paramedic. He went to the police academy in Modesto, CA and won the Outstanding Officer award. He served more than twenty years in the Turlock Police Department in California, initially in patrol, where he founded the department’s K-9 unit and worked as a handler and trainer. 

Bacca took a leave of absence from Turlock Police Department to go into the U.S. Army where he flew scout helicopters for the 3/1 Cavalry. After returning to Turlock Police Department, he became a detective. He handled Burglaries for several months, then Crimes Against Children for three years. He then transitioned to handling Robberies and Homicides until being promoted and placed in charge of the Detective Bureau. 

In 1993, while at Turlock Police Department, Bacca was awarded Officer of the Year. A few years later, he received the department's Core Value-Trust award. 

Bacca holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Juris Doctorate. He was an adjunct professor of Criminal Justice at California State University Stanislaus. He was a professor and Coordinator of the Criminal Justice Program at Davis & Elkins College.

Bacca began writing at the suggestion of his sister Becky after being injured and medically retired from police work. The first two books in the series were published in 2019, and the series is still going strong.

Bacca and his wife, Kristina, lived in Mesa, Arizona while he was writing the first several books. Currently, they reside in Cranston, Rhode Island.
